Images linked to Jeffrey Epstein have continued to draw Prince Andrew into the spotlight, with the latest release of documents adding fresh photographs to the public record. The pictures, which include Andrew with Virginia Giuffre and an unidentified woman, have sustained scrutiny of the royal's association with the disgraced financier.
The most prominent image, taken in 2001, shows Andrew with his arm around a 17-year-old Giuffre, while Ghislaine Maxwell, later convicted of sex trafficking, stands beside them. It did not surface until 2011. Andrew long maintained the photograph was doctored, but emails released with the Epstein files appeared to contradict that claim. In 2022, he settled a civil case brought by Giuffre in New York, without admitting liability or accepting her allegations of sexual assault.
An earlier photograph from 2010, showing Andrew walking with Epstein in New York, prompted questions in the News of the World about why a senior royal would meet a convicted sex offender. Andrew said he had visited Epstein to sever contact in person. However, an email from 2011, revealed last year, suggested otherwise, with Andrew writing: "We are in this together" and "Keep in close touch and we'll play some more soon."
The latest images, contained in a cache of more than three million documents released by the US justice department, show Andrew crouching over and kneeling above an unidentified female lying on the floor. They are undated and lack captions, and no wrongdoing is indicated.
Separately, a photograph of Andrew leaving a police station after arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office marked a historic moment, with Reuters noting he was the first royal arrested since Charles I in 1647. Photographer Phil Noble captured the scene, describing it as unprecedented in modern history.
