Photographs released by the US Justice Department appear to show how Prince Andrew facilitated Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell's access to British high society. One image shows Andrew reclining across five people at Sandringham, with Maxwell looking down at him. Another depicts Epstein and Maxwell hunting with the prince at Balmoral and in the royal box at Ascot.
The images, many undated, include a 2002 photo of Maxwell with Bill Clinton and Kevin Spacey in Churchill's war rooms. Andrew invited Epstein and Maxwell to Ladies' Day at Ascot on 22 June 2000, where they were his guests. The late Queen and Queen Mother also attended.
Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking. Maxwell was convicted in 2021 and sentenced to 20 years. Andrew settled a lawsuit with Virginia Giuffre, who claimed he sexually assaulted her when she was trafficked by Epstein. He denied meeting her.
The documents were released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The Justice Department said 'several hundred thousand' files were made public, with more to come. Critics note heavy redactions in many photos and documents.
