Emmerdale viewers are set for a dramatic summer as Caleb Miligan, with the help of his wife Ruby, finally seeks revenge on his nephew Joe Tate for the shocking kidney theft storyline that aired last year. The plot, which saw Joe steal Caleb's kidney, initially led Caleb to demand payback, but after a temporary truce with Kim Tate, new hints suggest that Caleb is ready to strike again.
Producer Laura Shaw Teases the Revenge Plot
Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw revealed that Caleb and Ruby will team up to bring down Joe. She stated: "We have a story coming up at the depot with Caleb trying to get his groove back, which leads to some problems up there. Going forward, we'll reach a point where Caleb begins to see an opportunity to get Joe back. He's not forgotten that Joe stole his kidney, and an opportunity will present itself in the summer that means Caleb and Ruby are working together to get the ultimate revenge on Joe."
Who Else Could Be Involved?
Fans have long speculated that Dawn Taylor, Moira, or Cain Dingle might deliver Joe's comeuppance, but Shaw's comments suggest that Caleb and Ruby will be the primary agents of revenge. However, the return of Graham Foster, played by Andrew Scarborough, adds another layer of intrigue. Shaw explained: "I'd been talking about it for about two years. I think most people thought I was mad when I kept bringing it up at our story conference and it became a bit of a joke, everyone just keep laughing at me! In the end, I think I gave a PowerPoint presentation on how he 'died' and then tried to leave no stone unturned as to how he'd survived. The timing felt right with Corriedale."
Shaw added: "The reaction was amazing – the audience loved it! I feel like we missed Graham in the show, and he's the final piece of the jigsaw at Home Farm that really cements them as a family. We were missing the dad of the family, so we went mad and brought Graham back!" Whether Graham will support or thwart Caleb and Ruby's plot remains to be seen.
What's Next for Joe Tate?
Joe Tate has been a controversial figure in the village, and his actions have left many wanting justice. With Caleb and Ruby now plotting against him, and Graham's return potentially shifting alliances, the summer promises to be explosive. Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
