Emmerdale Axes Dingle Family Star in ITV Cost-Cutting

Emmerdale has reportedly axed another beloved character as the ongoing 'bloodbath' at the ITV soap continues. Actor Bradley Johnson, 28, who portrays Mandy Dingle's adopted son Vinny, is set to depart after seven years on the show.

Cast Cuts Continue

Johnson joins previously announced exits of Nick Miles (Jimmy King) and Olivia Bromley (Dawn Taylor) as part of cost-cutting measures. An Emmerdale source revealed: "Bradley is a very popular member of the cast and especially close with his on-screen Dingle family. Everyone is shocked that bosses decided to axe him, but it's all part of the ITV cuts and they still need to trim back the cast." The source added that fewer episodes are being produced, reducing the need for as many characters.

ITV declined to comment officially when approached by the Mirror regarding Johnson's departure.

On-Screen Impact

Johnson made his debut in 2019 as part of Lisa Riley's return storyline as Mandy Dingle. The source claimed Riley is "devastated" by the news, highlighting their close bond. Johnson has been involved in major storylines, including the return of his abusive father Paul, his relationship with Liv Flaherty and her death, a short-lived marriage to Gabby Thomas, struggles with his sexuality, and his friendship with Kammy Hadiq.

In 2022, Johnson reflected on his time on the show: "I'm just loving my time on Emmerdale, as long as the writing is great, as it is, I'm just grateful to be here."

Further Exits and Stunt Rumours

Nick Miles is reportedly leaving after over two decades as Jimmy King, with his character allegedly being killed off in a major stunt later this year. Ex-wife Sadie King (Patsy Kensit) is expected to return for the storyline. Olivia Bromley's Dawn Fletcher is also exiting, having recently given fiancé Joe Tate an ultimatum over his war with the Dingles. Rumours suggest a big stunt could kill off even more cast members.

Cost-cutting at ITV has led to reduced screentime for soaps, with hour-long slots replaced by under 30 minutes per day for both Emmerdale and Coronation Street.
