A prolific shoplifter who bears a striking resemblance to singer Ed Sheeran has been banned from every Tesco in Derby. Bailey Esmonde, 22, was issued a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) after a series of thefts from the supermarket chain.
Derbyshire Police released Esmonde's custody photo, sparking a flurry of social media comments comparing him to the pop star. One user called him 'a Temu version of Ed Sheeran', while others joked: 'When your legs don’t work cause you’re barred from the store.' The post attracted over 2,500 comments.
Esmonde's ban stems from an incident on March 30, when he stole two cans of cider from Tesco Express in St Peter’s Street. Two days later, he was arrested for possession of a wrap of cocaine. He pleaded guilty to shop theft and possession of crack cocaine at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on April 2, receiving a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay compensation.
The CBO, granted on May 14, prohibits Esmonde from entering any Tesco in Derby for three years, until May 13, 2029. He must also leave any retail premises when asked by staff, security, or police. This extends a previous CBO from 2024 that only banned him from the Tesco Express in Alvaston, where he had stolen a can of Monster energy drink, two sandwiches, crisps, and chicken bites.
