Dr Ranj Singh's Ex-Wife Breaks Silence on 'Messy' Divorce After He Came Out as Gay

Dr Ranj Singh's ex-wife, Sulvinder Samra, has spoken publicly for the first time about their divorce, describing it as 'messy and painful'. The couple were married for seven years before the This Morning doctor came out as gay in 2011, leaving her devastated.

In an emotional Instagram post marking what would have been their 20th anniversary, Sulvinder shared a montage of photos from their marriage. She wrote: 'I thought my life would go as planned... Work hard. Get a degree. Get a job. Find a partner. Get married. Have kids. Instead I had a messy and painful divorce.'

She revealed that the split left her feeling 'unattractive, ashamed, and not good enough' for years. 'I could not trust anyone. I did not trust myself. I believed I wouldn't be a good mum, I'm not good at relationships, I did not deserve any happiness,' she said. As a result, she gave up her dream of becoming a mother, accepting she would 'only be an aunt'.

Recalling the marriage, Sulvinder said it 'was not easy' and there was 'not a lonelier feeling than feeling alone in a marriage'. She added: 'When it ended, both parties were hurting, and a divorce was the only option.' She mourned the loss of the future she thought she had and the person she thought she had married.

Twelve years after the divorce, Sulvinder quit her job as a pharmacist and retrained as a nervous system coach. Dr Ranj, who is now in a relationship with podcast host James Colebrook, previously told the Big Issue that therapy helped him realise the 'perfect life' he had worked towards was not his 'perfect life'.
