The political world is buzzing after Bill de Blasio's former girlfriend made a very public statement about their breakup, choosing to wear her feelings literally on her sleeve.
The T-Shirt That Said It All
Nomiki Konst, the 41-year-old progressive political adviser who was dating the former New York City mayor until recently, was spotted in Queens on Thursday wearing a blue T-shirt with a stark white message: 'Men will literally do anything but go to therapy.'
The fashion choice came just days after The Daily Mail exclusively revealed that de Blasio had been cheating on Konst with Roxanna Valenzuela, the mayor of South Tucson, Arizona. The 64-year-old de Blasio had been in a ten-month relationship with Konst that reportedly gave him a noticeable 'glow-up' before it dramatically ended on election night.
A Political Romance Unravels
Konst, who originally hails from Tucson but lives in New York, didn't mince words when asked about the situation. 'Oh, I have no interest in being on the Real Housewives of South Tucson,' she told observers. 'I'm too busy being Olivia Pope in New York,' referencing the famous political fixer from the television series Scandal.
The breakup marks a sharp turn from just last month, when the couple appeared happily united while campaigning for now Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, even wearing matching 'Hot Girls for Zohran' shirts. The contrast between then and now couldn't be more striking.
The Other Woman and the Fallout
Valenzuela, the other mayor in this complicated triangle, appears to have been less than discreet about her relationship with de Blasio. A source close to Valenzuela's family revealed that 'she's telling everyone in Tucson, so that's how the story got out.'
The same source expressed concern about the impact on Valenzuela's family, noting she's a mother to a toddler born in 2023 and an older daughter who just graduated high school at age 16 in June. 'I don't think she gets the level of what she's doing is going to ruin people's lives,' the source added, characterising Valenzuela as 'narcissistic.'
Another source in Valenzuela's orbit was even more blunt, stating that she 'is ruining her life, her kids' lives, and [her co-parent's] life to be famous' and that she 'clearly thinks she's hit the jackpot' with de Blasio.
The evidence of the relationship was there for those looking closely enough. On Instagram, where de Blasio follows only 33 people, both Konst and Valenzuela made the cut. The first picture of de Blasio and Valenzuela together appeared back on June 1, with another showing them pressed together during a September visit to a New York City soup kitchen.
Neither de Blasio nor Valenzuela responded to multiple requests for comment from The Daily Mail. The former New York mayor had separated from his wife of 29 years, Chirlane McCray, in 2023, though they remain married and had agreed to date other people.
As for Konst, she continues her work with progressive political clients, carrying on with the business of New York politics while her former paramour's actions become international headlines.
