David Beckham marked the start of his 50th birthday with an opulent celebration at The Dorchester in London on Friday, sharing a tender kiss with his wife Victoria. The former footballer, who turns 50 on May 2, enjoyed an evening out complete with a cake and candles on the night before his milestone birthday.
Family Gathers for Pre-Birthday Bash
Beckham was joined by his mother Sandra, father Ted and his partner Hilary, as well as his sisters Lynne and Jojo for the pre-birthday festivities. Victoria's parents, Jackie and Anthony Adams, were also in attendance. Sharing a series of photos on Instagram, Victoria wrote: 'The first of many celebrations. Happy birthday eve!' None of the Beckham children appeared to be present for this occasion, with eldest son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz notably absent.
Ongoing Family Feud
The celebration comes amid a strained relationship between David and Victoria Beckham and their son Brooklyn. The couple has not spoken to Brooklyn since last May, when he and his wife reportedly snubbed the former footballer's 50th birthday celebrations. In a rare TV interview last week, Victoria addressed the 'challenging' past year, though she did not specifically mention her son. Speaking on the Today show, she said: 'Myself and David, we're so close and we have incredible people around us. We support each other through everything that we do. We love our children so much and have always really focused on protecting our children. But we laugh a lot. David is really, super funny.'
Brooklyn's Public Statement
Brooklyn cut ties with his family in a scathing social media statement in January, declaring he has no plans to reconcile and accusing his parents of 'controlling him for most of his life.' He also alleged that Victoria danced 'inappropriately' with him during his first dance at his 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz. Since then, David and Victoria have not been seen with their son. Victoria previously emphasized the importance of her children behaving 'appropriately,' and in the interview, she reiterated her commitment to protecting her family: 'All we've ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. That's all I really want to say about it.'
Victoria Reflects on Family Life
Victoria also addressed the impact of fame on her family, including her parents and four children: Brooklyn, Romeo (23), Cruz (21), and Harper (14). She told The Wall Street Journal: 'I wouldn't say it comes with guilt, I'd say that there was a lot of adjusting from my mum and dad, when all of a sudden there were paparazzi outside their house. We've really taken our families on this ride with us.' Shortly before Christmas, Brooklyn blocked his parents on Instagram, and in January, he posted a bombshell six-page letter, with lawyers demanding that all communication go through them. The feud shows no signs of resolution as David Beckham celebrates his 50th year.
