The cause of death for Darrell Sheets, the beloved star of the reality television series Storage Wars, has been officially confirmed as suicide. Sheets was found deceased at his residence in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, on April 22. He was 67 years old.
Official Confirmation and Investigation
On Tuesday, the Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed to multiple news outlets that Sheets died by suicide. The Lake Havasu City Police Department subsequently issued a statement acknowledging that Sheets' death had been ruled a suicide, pending the completion of toxicology results. The department also revealed that it is actively investigating allegations of cyberbullying associated with the case. According to a statement obtained by USA Today, the Criminal Investigations Unit has submitted Sheets' cellular phone for forensic analysis and is awaiting the results. The statement emphasized that this step is essential to advancing the case, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Co-Star's Reaction and Cyberbullying Claims
On the day of Sheets' death, his Storage Wars co-star René Nezhoda took to social media to claim that Sheets had been subjected to intense cyberbullying prior to his passing. In a video shared on Instagram, Nezhoda said, "Rest in peace Darrell Sheets. Also I know Darrell would want something positive out of this, so he had a guy that was really tormenting him lately. Cyberbullying." He urged the public to call Lake Havasu City police at 928-855-1171 if they have any information about the cyberbullying.
Nezhoda continued, "Guys, just because you watch us on television, doesn't mean you know us. It doesn't mean you know what we're about. Also, it doesn't entitle you to bully somebody. That's not just us, that's anybody. That's any athlete. You shouldn't cyberbully at all." He added, "You never know what demons somebody faces and what they go through and what you might push them through. Darrell has been posting a lot about the guy that has been cyberbullying and torturing him and I really hope they look into that guy and that's just not a pass. It's just not right, guys. Be better."
