Danny Dyer Distracted at BAFTAs Watching West Ham Match on Phone
Danny Dyer Watches West Ham at BAFTAs on Phone

Danny Dyer was visibly distracted backstage at the TV BAFTAs on Sunday night as he followed his beloved West Ham United's Premier League clash against Arsenal on his mobile phone. The 48-year-old actor was seen intently watching the screen while walking arm-in-arm with his daughter, Dani Dyer, toward the stage at The Royal Festival Hall.

A Passionate Fan's Dilemma

Danny, a famously ardent supporter of The Hammers, had to miss the match due to his presenting duties at the awards ceremony. He took to the stage to present the Reality Award gong to the cast of The Celebrity Traitors. Meanwhile, Love Island star Dani, who stunned in a strapless black gown, also missed watching her husband, West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen, play at the London Stadium.

Fortunately, the Rivals star kept his phone close to follow every nail-biting moment of the intense clash, as West Ham fought for crucial points to avoid relegation. As the former EastEnders star and Dani rode the lift to the stage, Danny was seen laughing with crew members.

VAR Controversy Decides Match

The match ended in heartbreak for West Ham, who were beaten in the Premier League after a late VAR controversy. Arsenal took the lead late on, and West Ham thought they had secured a dramatic equaliser through Callum Wilson. However, after a lengthy five-minute VAR review, the goal was overturned, leaving the Gunners with all three points. VAR deemed that goalkeeper David Raya had been fouled in the build-up to Wilson's strike.

With only two games left in the Premier League season, this result is a significant blow for the Hammers. After Tottenham's recent wins, they are in pole position to stay up, but there is still plenty to play for.

Post-BAFTAs Glimpses

Following the BAFTAs, Danny was seen leaving the Royal Festival Hall but made sure to take a quick cigarette break before hailing a cab. Meanwhile, Dani was spotted beaming as she headed home alone.

Elsewhere at the star-studded event, 16-year-old Owen Cooper celebrated his Supporting Actor gong with his parents, Andy and Noreen. The family posed proudly for a photo during the lavish dinner at the venue. Ahead of the awards, Owen was seen chatting with co-star Erin Doherty, who sat across from him.

Other notable attendees included Gavin and Stacey icon Rob Brydon, who enjoyed a glass of wine with Graham Norton and Kirsty Wark. Graham Norton was also seen chatting with Richard Osman as they posed for a photo before taking their seats.

Following the three-hour ceremony, the stars were treated to a lavish dinner by P&O Cruises inside the Royal Festival Hall. Despite killing off Paloma Faith on Celebrity Traitors, Alan Carr proved there was no bad blood as they sat together before chatting with ab-flashing Amanda Holden.

Made In Chelsea OGs Louise Thompson and Millie Mackintosh reunited, posing for photos during the champagne reception. Amandaland stars Lucy Punch, Philippa Dunne, and Jennifer Saunders were in good spirits, enjoying wine at the dinner.

Adolescence Dominates BAFTAs

The night's biggest winner was the Netflix series Adolescence, which received a record-breaking number of awards. Stephen Graham won Best Actor, while Owen Cooper took home Best Supporting Actor. Christine Tremarco won Best Supporting Actress, and the show also won Limited Drama.

During his acceptance speech, Stephen Graham, who played Jamie's father, said: 'I might take my time. I've been nominated eight times and this is the first time I've won. I'd like to thank all my fellow nominees. Especially our James and our Ellis, both of you are magnificent. When I was a kid, I watched a television programme called Scully, written by Alan Bleasdale, and it had the wonderful Drew Schofield in it. He lived across the road from my nanna's house, so he showed me then that I could be on television. Drew was such a wonderful man. He was my inspiration, so for any young kid, no matter where you're from, anything is possible.'

Owen Cooper, 16, made history by becoming the youngest winner of the Best Supporting Actor award at both the Golden Globes and the Emmy Awards, continuing his streak with the BAFTA.

Other Major Wins

The Lead Actress BAFTA went to Narges Rashidi for Prisoner 951, a drama based on the true story of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who was wrongfully imprisoned in Iran. She, her husband, and their daughter attended the ceremony.

Amandaland, starring Lucy Punch, won the BAFTA for Scripted Comedy. However, Lucy and co-star Philippa Dunne missed out on the Actress in a Comedy gong, which went to Katherine Parkinson for her performance in BBC One's Here We Go. Katherine thanked her husband Stephen during her speech, who 'wasn't here tonight because he didn't think I'd win.'

Claudia Winkleman accepted the Reality Award for The Celebrity Traitors. Alan Carr, 49, who won the series as a Traitor, dedicated his Most Memorable Moment Award win to his close friend Paloma Faith, whom he ruthlessly murdered on the show. He said: 'There's no one else I would rather murder than you.'

The Entertainment BAFTA was awarded to Last One Laughing, which also scored big on the night.
