Andrew Cuomo faced fierce criticism during the final Democratic mayoral primary debate in New York City on Thursday night, as seven candidates clashed over their records and experience. Other participants included New York City council speaker Adrienne Adams, comptroller Brad Lander, former comptroller Scott Stringer, state senator Zellnor Myrie, and former hedge fund manager Whitney Tilson. The debate highlighted deep divisions within the party ahead of the primary election on 24 June, with early voting beginning on 14 June.
Cuomo’s controversial remarks drew sharp rebukes from his opponents, who questioned his suitability for office given his past scandals. The former governor, who resigned in 2021 amid sexual harassment allegations, has sought to stage a political comeback but faces significant opposition from progressive and moderate factions alike.
