Cruz Beckham has once again reached out to his estranged brother Brooklyn on social media, following their mother Victoria's comments about the family's 'challenging' year in a recent interview. The 21-year-old singer extended an olive branch to his older sibling by sharing a nostalgic throwback photo featuring Brooklyn, 27, and Romeo, 23, from their childhood.
Family Rift Deepens
Brooklyn cut ties with his family in a scathing social media statement in January, declaring he has no intention of reconciling with his famous parents and accusing them of 'controlling him for most of his life.' Despite being blocked by Brooklyn, Cruz shared the image of himself and his brothers in matching white shirts on Instagram.
The youngest son of David and Victoria Beckham has made several attempts to connect with his older brother in recent months, including a birthday message saying 'I love you' on Instagram. Last month, Cruz became emotional while performing his song 'Loneliest Boy,' which is believed to be about his sibling. The lyrics include: 'Loneliest boy, mama don't talk too much, it's breaking her heart.'
Victoria's Response
Earlier this week, Victoria addressed the family's 'challenging' past year during an appearance on the Today show. When asked by hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones about navigating tough times, the 52-year-old did not directly reference Brooklyn but emphasised that she will 'always protect' her children.
She stated: 'You know, myself and David, we're so close and we have incredible people around us. We're close to my parents and David's parents. We support each other through everything that we do. We love our children so much and have always really focused on protecting our children. But we laugh a lot. David Beckham is really, super funny.'
Victoria also highlighted the mutual support between her and her husband, saying: 'We support each other through everything that we do. We've grown together. And that's where I feel so blessed. We really have grown together. We support each other. We've both got big dreams. We're both very, very ambitious and we support each other. I want him to be the best version of himself and that's what he wants for me.'
Background of the Feud
David and Victoria have not spoken to Brooklyn since last May, when he and his wife Nicola Peltz skipped the former footballer's 50th birthday celebrations. Lawyers for Brooklyn and Nicola subsequently wrote to the Beckhams' legal team, demanding all communication go through them. Brooklyn also blocked his parents on Instagram shortly before Christmas and posted a lengthy statement in January, accusing his parents of controlling him and attempting to damage his relationship.
In the statement, Brooklyn claimed: 'I do not want to reconcile with my family. I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family.' He detailed several grievances, including his mother cancelling the design of Nicola's wedding dress, pressure to sign away rights to his name, and inappropriate behaviour during his first dance.
