Craig David has expressed his disappointment after being forced to cancel his headline slot at Boardmasters Festival in Cornwall on Saturday night. The singer said he was 'gutted' after his flight from London to Newquay was cancelled at the last minute, leaving him unable to reach the festival on time.
In a video shared on Instagram, David apologised to fans, explaining that he tried 'private jets, helicopters, any way to try and get there but nothing was working.' The cancellation marked the first time in 15 years that he had missed a performance.
David was due to headline the Unleashed stage, the second largest at the festival. His slot was taken over by Mercury Prize nominee Kano, who described stepping in as 'saving the Craig' and said he enjoyed the performance.
Fans expressed their frustration on social media, with some questioning the singer's schedule. In a lengthy social media post, David insisted the schedule was not tight and that everything would have been fine if the flight had not been cancelled. He said: 'If we had known it was going to be cancelled when I arrived at the airport in London there may have been a chance of getting there by other means.' He ended by wishing festival-goers a good time and expressing hope to play at Boardmasters next year.
