Coronation Street actor James Cartwright has teased that the identity of his character Theo Silverton's killer will not be who viewers expect. Theo, who was central to a hard-hitting domestic abuse storyline with Todd Grimshaw, was found dead in an alley at the beginning of May, sparking a major whodunnit plot.
Speaking to Radio Times at the BAFTA Television Awards 2026 in London, Cartwright joked about knowing who dealt the fatal blow. 'If I told you, I'd have to kill you. Is that a price you're willing to pay?' he said. He described his exit storyline as 'so exciting' and noted that viewers had 'two bites at the same cherry' – guessing who would die and then who committed the murder.
Cartwright teased: 'It's not who you think it is. So it could be Summer. Unlikely, but she could have hit him with a can of beans. It could be George – you know, he's a big boy, and he's already thumped him. It could be Pauline... There's so many people that it could be!'
Six characters are currently suspected: Todd, George, Gary Windass, Summer Spellman, Christina Boyd, and Theo's ex-wife Danielle. The investigation is underway on screen, with each suspect being hauled in for questioning. Coronation Street airs weekdays from 8.30pm on ITV and from 7am on ITVX.
