Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd, best known for his role as David Platt, recently underwent a medical procedure to remove a large cyst from his neck, which he described as being the size of a golf ball. The actor, who has been on the soap since the age of 12, shared the unsettling experience on the podcast 'On The Sofa' alongside his co-stars Ben Price and Colson Smith.
The Health Scare
Speaking to his fellow cast members, Shepherd explained that he had noticed a lump on the side of his neck that would not go away. Initially, he thought it might be an ingrown hair, but after consulting a doctor, he was informed it was a cyst. The doctor offered to remove it the following day, and Shepherd agreed.
During the procedure, the doctor instructed Shepherd not to watch, but the actor caught a reflection of the removal in a clock on the wall. 'When he pulled it out, it was massive!' Shepherd exclaimed. His co-star Ben Price described the cyst as looking 'like something from another planet.'
Life on and off the Cobbles
Shepherd, now 38, has played the troubled character David Platt for over 25 years. He expressed his willingness to continue for another quarter-century, citing the longevity of actors like Bill Roache as inspiration. 'I think as long as it's still going and we're lucky enough to get stories and the public like the characters, then yeah,' he said.
Off-screen, Shepherd and his wife Hanni Treweek are expecting their first child together. The couple met on the set of Coronation Street, where Treweek worked from 2018 to 2020, but their romance blossomed after a mutual friend's wedding. Shepherd also has two children, Nyla and Reuben, from a previous relationship with Lauren Shippey.
