An 18-year-old man at the centre of a police investigation into an underage sex act at an Edinburgh house party has been released from custody. The man was freed pending further inquiries into allegations that he engaged in a sexual act with a 15-year-old girl while partygoers filmed the incident on their mobile phones.
Detectives launched the probe after the Daily Record revealed that the explicit video was being shared on social media. The party, which took place on Saturday night, was attended by two prominent local sportsmen—a footballer and a boxer—who have not been named as they are not believed to have been involved in any illegal activity.
A Crown Office spokesman said: 'The Procurator Fiscal at Edinburgh received a report concerning an 18-year-old male in connection with an incident said to have occurred in Edinburgh on 3 May 2015. After full and careful consideration of the report, the accused was liberated from custody and did not appear in court in respect of this incident. The case remains under consideration by the Procurator Fiscal.'
Police have stated that they are still seeking the individuals who filmed the incident. The investigation continues.
