The scandal centres on the 'Return to Nature' funeral home in Penrose, where authorities made a ghastly discovery last October. Instead of the respectful care families paid for, they found nearly 200 bodies in various states of advanced decomposition.
A Chilling Discovery and Criminal Charges
The owners of the establishment, Jon and Carie Hallford, now face a slew of serious criminal charges. They are accused of abusing corpses, theft, money laundering, and forgery. The couple was arrested in Oklahoma last November, with their extradition to Colorado secured on a $2 million bond.
Disturbing details from arrest affidavits reveal that the Hallfords are alleged to have "knowingly desecrated numerous human corpses".
