James Haskell has spoken about his relationship with ex-wife Chloe Madeley, describing their split as 'awful' and 'dark'. The former rugby union player and the personal trainer, daughter of TV presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, announced their separation in October 2023 after five years of marriage.
Haskell, 39, now says the pair are 'good friends' and 'very transparent' with each other. He credited Madeley for encouraging him to appear on the E4 reality show Celebs Go Dating. The couple co-parent their four-year-old daughter Bodhi, with Haskell stating: 'Our priority is always Bodhi.'
Madeley previously described the final year of their marriage as 'the worst period of my life', calling it 'incredibly scary' and 'dark'. She said she wanted to protect their daughter from the painful details. Haskell admitted his drinking contributed to the breakdown, saying: 'If I put more time into my marriage than I did Guinness, then I wouldn't be divorced now.'
The couple's joint statement in 2023 requested privacy, saying their focus was on their daughter. They have since maintained a collaborative co-parenting relationship, with Haskell expressing gratitude for their trust and support.
