Caleb Shomo, the 33-year-old frontman of the rock band Beartooth, has publicly come out as a “proudly gay man” in an Instagram post over the weekend. Shomo, who first gained fame as a teenager in Attack Attack!, addressed growing speculation about his private life, stating he wanted to “set the record straight before it affects those I love any further.”
His wife of 13 years, Fleur, issued a moving statement confirming their marriage is over but expressing unwavering support. “I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb,” she wrote, acknowledging the “hurtful” and “disorienting” nature of the transition. Despite the pain, she described their nearly 14-year marriage as “wonderful and full of so much fun, adventure & love.”
The couple met in 2010 when Shomo was touring with Attack Attack! and Fleur was visiting friends in the UK. They married in Hawaii in 2012. Shomo has previously praised Fleur for bringing balance and stability to his life, especially given his demanding touring schedule.
Shomo has long been open about his mental health struggles, including “horrible clinical depression,” suicidal ideation, eating disorders, and substance abuse. In his coming-out announcement, he revealed that masking his true identity contributed to his demons, saying, “I spent a decade burying feelings with alcohol.” After getting sober, he began to understand why he had felt that way for so long.
Beartooth, formed in 2012, is known for its confessional songwriting. Shomo has described depression as “really the root of Beartooth’s whole existence.” Fans can expect the band to continue releasing music, with Shomo now embracing his identity as a proudly gay man.
