Beartooth frontman Caleb Shomo has publicly come out as a 'proudly gay man', receiving unwavering support from his wife of 13 years, Fleur. The 33-year-old musician, who rose to fame as a teenager with Attack Attack!, addressed speculation about his personal life on Instagram, stating, 'I am a proudly gay man.'
Wife's Heartbreaking Statement
Fleur Shomo, an actress and podcast host, issued a moving statement confirming the end of their marriage but expressing her enduring love and support. 'I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb,' she wrote. She described the transition as 'hurtful' and 'disorienting', yet acknowledged the wonderful years they shared: 'Our nearly 14 years of marriage was wonderful and full of so much fun, adventure & love.'
The couple met in 2010 while Caleb was touring with Attack Attack! and Fleur was visiting friends in the band Bury Tomorrow. They married in Hawaii in 2012. Caleb has previously praised Fleur for bringing balance to his life, calling her his 'rock'.
Battle with Depression
Caleb has long been open about his struggles with 'horrible clinical depression', which began in his school years and led him to quit Attack Attack! in 2012. He has spoken about suicidal ideation, eating disorders, and substance abuse. In his coming-out announcement, he revealed that masking his true sexuality fed his demons, admitting, 'I spent a decade burying feelings with alcohol.' Sobriety helped him understand why he felt this way for so long.
Next Steps
Caleb expressed hope for the future, stating that reconciling with his sexuality will lead to self-love. He promised that his 'most honest depiction' of art is still to come. Beartooth is set to release their sixth album, Pure Ecstasy, this summer, with a world tour beginning in September. The album is described as capturing 'a long-tortured artist clawing through to the other side.'
