Andy Burnham has become the fastest-serving Prime Minister to take a holiday, jetting off just 15 days after taking office. The exact destination remains a mystery, but government sources suggest he has gone abroad.
Record-Breaking Break
The Labour leader, known for his fondness for caravan holidays and trips to Spain, has beaten the previous record held by Theresa May, who took a Swiss Alps break after four weeks in 2016.
The decision has drawn ridicule from political rivals, with some dubbing him 'Bunk Off Burnham' and accusing him of 'running away' from his responsibilities.
Political Backlash
Reform chairman Lee Anderson criticized the move in a social media video, saying: "Two weeks into the job and Andy Burnham has already had enough. He’s bunked off for a jolly abroad. This isn’t a Prime Minister that’s serious about leading."
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch avoided direct criticism but repeated calls for Parliament to be recalled, stating: "Andy Burnham was running away from Parliament - he can't run away forever, I'm not going to be giving him a holiday when we come back in September."
Government Defense
Government officials have defended the trip, insisting Burnham will remain in constant contact with his office. Justice Secretary Alex Norris told Sky News: "The prime minister is having a few days away with his family. He will be in constant contact with his office. I mean, I might gently say that I've spoken to him virtually every day since I joined the cabinet, and I suspect that won't change."
Parliament is currently in recess, with MPs due to return on Tuesday, 1 September.
