Brooke Shields has revealed new details about her romance with John F. Kennedy Jr., nearly 40 years after they were first linked. The 60-year-old actress was involved with the late son of President John F. Kennedy in the late 1980s, after meeting him on a skiing trip in Aspen, Colorado.
Relationship Confirmed
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Shields confirmed the pair 'dated' but said the relationship never turned physical. 'I didn't have a love story, I had a crazy, crazy crush,' she explained. When asked if they ever had sex, she replied: 'We dated but I never slept with him so I don't know if that counts. He was lovely to me.'
Binging the TV Series
Kennedy's relationship with his wife Carolyn Bessette Kennedy was explored in Ryan Murphy's TV show Love Story, and Shields admitted she binge-watched the entire series. 'I watched it start to finish. I loved it. I thought the acting was amazing,' she said. The actress also revealed that her daughter Rowan Henchy, 23, worked as a production assistant on the show and warned her mother that she would be mentioned.
Shields told People: 'That was a little weird. I was away, and my daughter called me and says: "Oh my God, you're mentioned in Love Story," and she's like: "Is it true?" I was like: "OK, I'd be happy to tell you all the stories if you want, but yes [it's true]."'
The Best Kiss
Shields has previously opened up about sharing a kiss with Kennedy during their brief romance. On The Howard Stern Show in 2023, she said: 'He kissed me, and it was like the best kiss I've ever had in my life. It was beyond not-disappointing. The lips are beautiful, and the face is amazing, and the body and the person, and he was down to earth and funny and irreverent.'
She added: 'I froze though because he was so precious to me. I was like: "Oh, my God, you're falling in love, and if you sleep with him he may not talk to you again - and you can't handle that." I wasn't playing a game. I really was just so afraid of being really hurt, because if I slept with him I would've given him my entire universe, my heart, my everything.'
Unchivalrous Behavior
Shields also described Kennedy's behavior as 'less than chivalrous'. After she declined to sleep with him, he failed to get her a cab home and ignored her the next day on the ski slopes. 'He showed his true colors in that,' she said. Despite this, she noted that Kennedy had many famous girlfriends, including Daryl Hannah and Madonna.
Kennedy and his wife Carolyn Bessette were killed in a plane crash in 1999, along with Carolyn's sister Lauren.
