Britney Spears' Ex-Husband Glad She's in Rehab After DUI Arrest

Britney Spears has entered a rehabilitation facility, and her former spouse, Sam Asghari, has expressed relief that the pop star is receiving the assistance she needs. The singer, aged 44, voluntarily checked herself into the program after reaching what has been described as "rock bottom" following a recent arrest.

Substance Abuse Treatment

The "Baby One More Time" artist is undergoing treatment for substance abuse. In March, she was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol. During the arrest, an unidentified substance was discovered in her vehicle.

As she embarks on her recovery journey, Sam Asghari has publicly shared his support. He informed TMZ: "I think it's great (she's in rehab). I think anything that has anything to do with healing and great things and the person is in charge of that, then it's all good."

Criticism of Conservatorship

In a previous interview with the same outlet, Asghari criticized the conservatorship that Britney was under for many years, labeling it a "bulls*** move." He stated: "They should never happen. They should be illegal to put anybody under the conservatorship and that was the worst thing to ever happen in this country." He added: "In a country of freedom, that should never have happened. Especially to her."

Britney and Sam were married for 14 months before their separation in August 2023. Despite the divorce, Sam has maintained a positive outlook on their time together, though he is believed to have initiated the divorce proceedings.

Legal and Personal Challenges

In March of this year, Britney found herself incarcerated. Her manager commented on the incident to the Mirror: "This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully, this can be the first step in a long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."

A source also told TMZ that the decision to enter rehab was made with an eye on her upcoming court appearance. She is scheduled to appear in court on May 4 regarding the DUI charge. The insider explained that the singer, who has previously struggled with alcohol and drugs such as ADHD medication Adderall, "knows strategically" that going to rehab "will look good in front of the judge" as it will demonstrate her commitment to addressing the issue.

The source further claimed that she had "hit rock bottom" following the arrest. However, it is reported that her sons, Sean, aged 20, and Jayden, aged 19, have been "strongly supportive" of her decision to seek rehabilitation. The boys had been spending time with their mother and were photographed on a boat prior to her arrest. They took to social media to share fond memories of their time together.
