A forensic lip-reader has disclosed the panicked exchange between Vice President JD Vance and a Secret Service agent during a shooting incident at a Washington DC hotel. The event occurred at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where Donald Trump was preparing to address journalists.
Nicola Hickling, a forensic lip-reader, analysed footage showing a bodyguard shouting at Vance: 'Run, f***ing run.' The Vice President responded, 'What's happening? I'm going,' before being swiftly escorted off stage.
The attacker, identified by US outlets as Cole Thomas Allen, 31, from Torrance, California, was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives. He was shot and subdued by security forces at the scene. Trump later posted images of the suspect lying face down on the carpet.
Another guest, Erika Kirk, wife of the late right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, was seen in tears being escorted away, telling a bodyguard: 'I just wanna go home.' The incident adds to a series of security threats against Trump, including a 2024 rally shooting where Thomas Crooks fired eight shots, wounding Trump and killing one audience member.
