The two victims of a fatal explosion at a home in Bristol have been identified locally as Ryan Kelly and his former partner Joanne Shaw. Kelly, previously convicted for his role in a crystal meth gang, is believed to have detonated a grenade at the property, killing himself and Shaw.
Neighbour Stuart Blanchard said Kelly had gone to the house in a 'mental state' and that Shaw had moved there to escape him. Blanchard added that Shaw had complained to police about harassment before the incident. Another neighbour, Wayne Smith, claimed Kelly 'turned up at her house with a grenade and detonated it on the doorstep'.
Police continue to investigate the explosion, which also left three others injured. Forensics teams remain at the scene. The blast was heard by several residents, some of whom initially thought it was a car crash or gas explosion.
Ryan Kelly was jailed for five years in 2015 for conspiracy to supply cocaine as part of a gang that planned to manufacture crystal meth. The operation was led by a 78-year-old man from prison and was compared to the TV series Breaking Bad. The gang was foiled before production began after police bugged their vehicles.
