Brisbane Lions whiteboard leak slams Essendon stars

A photo of a whiteboard from the Brisbane Lions' training facility, Brighton Homes Arena, has been leaked, revealing critical assessments of several Essendon players. The whiteboard listed supposed strengths and weaknesses, including Zach Merrett and Kyle Langford being described as 'selfish', Ben McKay having 'low confidence', Elijah Tsatas labelled 'fumbly', Saad El-Hawli's 'defensive accountability' questioned, and Xavier Duursma's 'decision making' criticised.

Leak Details

The images were uploaded to a private Essendon Supporters Group Facebook page on Friday. The Lions have confirmed the authenticity of the whiteboard photos, which were taken at a venue frequently used by the public. Former Brisbane coach Leigh Matthews expressed the club would be 'mortified' by the leak, stating, 'It's not unusual. It's just embarrassing that it has seen the light of day. You would be mortified. This is something we're talking about that's not meant for public consumption.'

Reaction and Context

Former Carlton captain Sam Docherty added, 'This would not be a laughing matter internally (at Brisbane).' The leak comes as Brisbane delivered a dominant performance at Marvel Stadium on Saturday, defeating Essendon by 64 points. Zac Bailey, Logan Morris, and Kai Lohmann each kicked four goals, while defender Darcy Wilmot amassed 32 possessions and a long-range goal. For Essendon, utility Nik Cox made a return after 630 days due to concussion issues.
