Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan has condemned a parent who leaked confidential whiteboard notes detailing Essendon players' strengths and weaknesses ahead of Saturday's 64-point victory. The photos, shared in a Bomber supporter Facebook group, included descriptions such as 'selfish' for Zach Merrett and Kyle Langford, 'low confidence' for Ben McKay, and 'kicking cough up' for Andrew McGrath.
Fagan expressed disappointment, calling the act 'unfair' and criticising the individual for seeking to be a 'hero'. He noted the Lions have used this analytical exercise for nine years, a practice he learned from former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones. The incident occurred at the club's Brighton Homes Arena headquarters.
Former Lion Jaxon Prior was listed with only 'Bronte' as a strength, referring to his partner, which Fagan said was taken in good humour. However, the coach admitted the breach made him reconsider allowing external access to club facilities, though he affirmed the club's commitment to community engagement.
Essendon coach Brad Scott was unfazed, stating the practice is common and that such leaks are Brisbane's issue to manage. Brisbane defender Harris Andrews also voiced anger over the incident.
