A bride-to-be has faced backlash on social media after presenting her bridesmaids with a 'list of duties' that included purchasing her a wedding gift. The woman, believed to be American, gave her bridal party 'bridesmaid proposal boxes' containing a 'cheat sheet' outlining their responsibilities.
The list featured five common tasks, such as assisting with wedding planning, but the sixth item sparked outrage: 'Purchase a wedding gift. Talk to the other bridesmaids about pitching in for a joint wedding gift.' Screenshots of the boxes and list were shared in a wedding shaming Facebook group, where many criticised the bride for being 'demanding' and 'over the top'.
One commenter said: 'Your bridesmaids are your friends not your funding source.' Another added: 'If they're expected to pay for their outfits and accessories and pre-wedding activities then that should be their wedding gift.' Some were divided on whether bridesmaids should cover their own dresses, with one noting that in Australia it is standard custom for bridesmaids to purchase their dresses.
