Boy George has expressed his desire to write the UK's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, following his failure to reach the final while representing San Marino earlier this month. The Culture Club frontman performed the song 'Superstar' alongside Senhit during the first semi-final in Vienna, but the duo did not advance to the final, which was eventually won by Bulgaria.
The UK also struggled at the contest, with entry Look Mum No Computer finishing in last place with his song 'Eins, Zwei, Drei'. Speaking on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, Boy George criticised the competition's structure, noting that the 'Big Five' countries—France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK—automatically qualify for the final without a selection process. 'If five countries can get into the show without any process, how's that a competition?' he said.
Despite the early exit, Boy George remains keen to contribute to the UK's Eurovision efforts. 'I'd like to write the British entry. That's something I would like to do, so I'm putting it out there,' he stated. He also questioned why the UK is 'so unpopular' in the contest, given its musical heritage: 'Come on, we've given the world such great music.'
The UK has not won Eurovision since Katrina and the Waves triumphed in 1997 with 'Love Shines A Light'. The nation last hosted the contest in 2023 on behalf of Ukraine. Whether Boy George will be involved in the UK's future entry remains uncertain, but his comments have sparked interest among fans.
