A Bollywood film workers' union has revoked a ban on actor Ranveer Singh after mediation by industry bodies, amid escalating legal tensions over his exit from the upcoming film Don 3.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) said on Wednesday it was withdrawing the 'non-cooperation directive' against Singh 'with immediate effect' after intervention from producers' and actors' associations. The original directive had told all FWICE-affiliated workers not to work with Singh until he appeared before the organisation over his abrupt withdrawal from the film.
The dispute stems from Singh's exit from Don 3, the third instalment in director Farhan Akhtar's reboot of the Don franchise. Excel Entertainment, the production house, alleged that Singh left the project in December 2025, roughly three weeks before filming was due to begin, after participating in action training, costume trials, and script-reading sessions. FWICE said the producers claimed losses of approximately Rs450m (£3.49m) on pre-production costs.
Multiple mediation meetings involved Bollywood figures including Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar, and others. According to reports, Singh argued he was unhappy with the script, a reported budget reduction from Rs 3bn-3.5bn to around Rs 1.5bn, and Akhtar's availability. The ban was revoked after FWICE received assurances that underlying concerns would be addressed, and following a legal notice from Singh challenging the directive's jurisdiction.
FWICE president BN Tiwari denied backing down due to the legal notice, stating the decision was for 'the larger interest of the film industry'. The organisation said the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association played a key role in resolving the situation.
