Billionaire Philanthropist David Rockefeller Dies at 101

US billionaire David Rockefeller, the last surviving grandson of Standard Oil co-founder John D. Rockefeller, has died at the age of 101. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday morning at his home in Pocantico Hills, New York.

Mr Rockefeller was the sixth child of John D. Rockefeller Jr and was the head of a vast network of family interests spanning business and philanthropy, including environmental conservation and the arts. He was the last of his generation in the famously philanthropic family.

To mark his 100th birthday in 2015, he donated 1,000 acres of land adjacent to a national park to the state of Maine. His philanthropic efforts were widely recognised, including a 2016 award luncheon at the Museum of Modern Art.
