Jeff Bezos has defended Amazon's investment in the documentary movie "Melania," which received overwhelmingly negative reviews, insisting it was a "good business decision" for the company. The Amazon founder denied personal involvement in the movie's production, stating he "had nothing to do with that" and attributed the decision to the Amazon team, despite the film's 10% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Financial Performance and Defense
The film, which cost $40 million to produce and $35 million to market, generated only $16 million globally. Yet Bezos claimed it "did very well in theaters" and on streaming platforms. "It was a good business decision, and it did well," Bezos said, emphasizing that the Amazon team made the call based on their assessment.
Bezos on Trump
Bezos also praised Donald Trump, describing him as "a more mature, more disciplined version of himself" compared to his first term. He stressed the importance of business leaders providing input to any administration, regardless of political affiliation.
Taxation Comments
The Amazon founder commented on taxation, arguing that increasing his already "billions of dollars" in taxes would not solve societal problems, such as helping a teacher in Queens. He suggested that broader economic growth and private sector initiatives are more effective than higher taxes on the wealthy.
