Ben Miller, best known for playing DI Richard Poole in Death in Paradise, has announced that he will reprise his role as Professor Jasper Tempest in ITV's Professor T. The actor revealed during an appearance on The One Show that not only is season five of the series forthcoming, but season six is also in the works.
"We've got season five that will hopefully be coming out in the autumn," Miller said. "I mean, spoiler alert, we're actually working on season six. It's a very exciting situation to be in." The show follows Professor Tempest, a criminologist with OCD and a troubled past, who is drawn into police investigations by a former pupil.
Executive producer Jo McGrath hinted at dramatic developments ahead: "Season 5 will prove to be a momentous one for Professor T, both personally and professionally, and the series will climax with one of its trademark series finale episodes guaranteed to keep audiences glued."
Fans of Death in Paradise have expressed delight at the news on social media. One wrote: "My favourite detective is back on screens," while another commented: "I was so sad when you died in Death in Paradise."
Miller also appeared on Sunday Brunch to discuss his other project, the comedy series Austin, which has been a hit in Australia but has yet to air in the UK. He also announced his debut adult novel, A Very Dangerous Pursuit, a spy thriller featuring a protagonist he describes as "incredibly self-conscious" and useless with gadgets.
