Sir David Beckham is preparing to mark his 51st birthday tomorrow (Saturday May 2), yet the former England captain is braced for further heartache as the family's bitter falling-out with son Brooklyn, 27, shows no sign of resolution. The occasion falls a year after tensions reached boiling point when Brooklyn snubbed David's landmark 50th birthday celebrations in May 2025.
Rift Deepens Publicly
The rift became dramatically more public and acrimonious in January 2026, when Brooklyn released a series of statements on Instagram declaring he had "no interest in a reconciliation" and accused his parents of prioritising "Brand Beckham" over his marriage to Nicola Peltz. It is widely anticipated that Brooklyn will once again give his father's birthday a miss this year as the dispute rumbles on. This is in spite of both David and Victoria continuing to publicly express their love for their son through social media posts.
Family's Stance: Never Give Up Hope
According to an insider, despite Brooklyn showing absolutely no willingness to patch things up, David and Victoria are refusing to throw in the towel. Following a string of public appearances, the Beckhams say 'everything's going really well' at present, but still, 'Brooklyn's not there'. The source told Page Six that the family have a five-word stance that they 'will never give up hope' of reuniting with their son, and they're 'saddened' that the feud has dragged on for so long. It's believed that David and Victoria were hopeful that things could get back to how they once were before the World Cup on June 11, given that they'll be spending the entire tournament in the US. However, those hopes appear to be fading fast, with a source revealing: 'Everything is frozen in place.'
Limited Contact with Grandparents
It's understood that the only family members Brooklyn remains in contact with are his grandparents – David's mum, Sandra, and Victoria's parents, Jackie and Tony. Even then, it's believed to be sporadic and conducted via text message alone.
Victoria's Comments on Family Rift
Victoria was recently quizzed about the family rift by the Wall Street Journal. Although she stopped short of mentioning Brooklyn by name, Victoria said: "I think that we've always – we love our children so much. We've always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And, you know, we've been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we've ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And, you know, that's all I really want to say about it." When asked whether she felt any guilt about her children being thrust into the spotlight from such a young age, she said: "I wouldn't say it comes with guilt; I'd say that there was a lot of adjusting from my mum and dad when all of a sudden there were paparazzi outside their house. We've really taken our families on this ride with us."
David's birthday follows reports that Victoria was apparently 'dreading' her own birthday last month amid the ongoing feud, having anticipated that Brooklyn would 'snub' her once again.
