Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York, is reportedly weighing lucrative offers for a tell-all interview or TV documentary series, but royal experts warn the move could devastate her daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
Fergie's potential payout
According to sources, Ferguson has been presented with multiple offers, including a $1.75 million (£1.3 million) bid from an American streaming service. The former Duchess has not spoken publicly since being named in the Epstein scandal files, though she denies any knowledge of criminal activity.
Having kept a low profile for over seven months, Ferguson was recently photographed at a £2,000-per-night ski chalet in Austria. A source told the Mirror that she is strapped for cash and open to the right television opportunity, but is concerned about the impact on her daughters.
Daughters' despair
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes Beatrice and Eugenie would be in despair if their mother proceeds. 'Whatever she said would result in headline news and the sort of publicity that Beatrice and Eugenie are desperately trying to avoid,' Bond told the Mirror.
Bond added that any interview would likely shine a light on the princesses' potential involvement with Epstein, which they have been trying to avoid. 'If she wants to protect her family, her best strategy is to continue keeping as low a profile as possible.'
Royal family rift
Bond also warned that a tell-all interview would include stories from behind Palace walls, further antagonising the Royal Family. 'Further revelations would only add fuel to the fire and antagonise the Palace even further. I hope Sarah sees sense and refuses the offers.'
While reports suggest Ferguson needs the money, Bond is sceptical. 'I simply don’t buy the idea that she is desperate for money. She really doesn’t have to stay in these extravagant places.' Bond suggested Ferguson should rent a modest house and live within her means to regain respect.
