Beartooth's Caleb Shomo Comes Out as Gay, Wife Reacts

Rock singer Caleb Shomo, the frontman of the metalcore band Beartooth, has come out as a "proudly gay man," prompting a heartfelt response from his wife of 14 years, Fleur. Shomo, 33, founded Beartooth in 2012, the same year he married Fleur, and he remains the band's sole constant member, recording much of their music alone. The band is set to release their sixth album, Pure Ecstasy, later this year.

Shomo's Announcement

In an Instagram post, Shomo addressed speculation about his personal life, writing: "There's been a lot of speculation surrounding my personal life as of late and I feel compelled to set the record straight before it affects those I love any further. I am a proudly gay man." He revealed that he has been "unpacking and reckoning" with this realization for "quite some time now." Shomo reflected on his earlier albums, describing them as "self-deprecating" and exploring themes like religious upbringing, depression, and self-hatred. He expressed gratitude for those albums but also embarrassment that he "wouldn't allow myself to really dig up the roots for so long."

Shomo also shared that he "spent a decade burying feelings with alcohol" before deciding to focus on exploring his feelings, which led him to reconcile with his sexuality. He expressed hope that this journey would eventually lead to self-love.

Fleur's Response

Within hours of Shomo's statement, Fleur posted her own Instagram message. She described the past few months as "a very disorientating and hurtful time to navigate" for both of them but affirmed her commitment to supporting Shomo. "I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb," she wrote. "I have cared more about his well being over the years than anything else in the world."

Fleur candidly acknowledged the difficulty of supporting Shomo while losing everything herself. "To support him whilst losing everything has been incredibly hard to figure out," she said. "You can love and support your person through the hardest time in their life, whilst also be completely demolished & lose yourself at the same time."

She confirmed that their marriage has ended, writing: "Our nearly 14yrs of marriage was wonderful and full of so much fun, adventure & love. Nobody will know anything about our marriage like we do. And no one can ever truly know what depths of love exist between two people unless they are those people." Fleur added, "I already miss it & my husband more than anything. Our story was a good one. And now it's done."

The couple's openness has drawn attention to the complexities of navigating personal identity within a long-term relationship, with many fans expressing support for both Shomo and Fleur during this transition.
