Part of Arsenal's Premier League title celebrations turned into a crime scene after a fan was stabbed during the parade in north London. The Gunners took to the streets on Sunday to celebrate winning England's top flight for the first time in 22 years, just hours after losing the Champions League final.
Chaos Erupts During Celebrations
Thousands of fans lined the streets, but the Metropolitan Police reported multiple offenses, including drunk and disorderly behavior, drug offenses, sexual assault, and assaults on emergency workers. Footage captured at the scene showed at least a dozen hooligans climbing on the roof of a police van, some drinking and banging on the vehicle while chanting and throwing footballs.
Stabbing Incident
At 9:33 pm, police cordoned off an area on Hornsey Road, about 15 minutes from Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, after a man was stabbed. He was taken to hospital. In total, 16 arrests were made. Police confirmed the stabbing and said six people were arrested for assaulting police officers. Images showed officers with batons drawn at rowdy fans.
Fire Brigade Rescues and Fire
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) rescued approximately 75 people from incidents at height and encouraged fans not to climb rooftops. They also attended a hotel fire believed to be caused by a stray flare. Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne said the fire caused only minor external damage. Pyrotechnics triggered fire alarms at several other locations.
Club Warning Ignored
Up to one million people lined the streets. The club had issued a warning on its website before the parade started at 2 pm, urging fans to be mindful of younger supporters and families, and to follow instructions from stewards and police. They specifically asked fans not to climb structures and reminded them that flares and pyrotechnics were strictly prohibited.
