Arsenal Face Tough Europa League Semi-Final Against Atletico Madrid

Arsenal have been drawn against Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals, setting up a reunion with former Chelsea striker Diego Costa. The draw was made on Friday morning by ex-Barcelona defender Eric Abidal.

The first leg will take place at the Emirates Stadium on April 26, with the return leg at the Wanda Metropolitano on May 3. The tie will be the first competitive meeting between managers Arsene Wenger and Diego Simeone.

Arsenal reached the semi-finals after a 4-1 first-leg win over CSKA Moscow, followed by a 2-2 draw in Russia. Danny Welbeck's late goal secured their progression. Atletico advanced despite a 1-0 defeat at Sporting Lisbon.

Wenger had previously admitted he would prefer to avoid Atletico, describing them as the strongest team on paper. The Gunners are prioritising the Europa League as they struggle to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

The other semi-final sees Marseille face Red Bull Salzburg. The final will be held in Lyon on May 16, with Arsenal drawn as the 'away' team if they advance.
