Liverpool manager Arne Slot has broken his silence following Mohamed Salah's public criticism of the team's recent performances and tactical approach. The Egyptian forward took to social media on Saturday to express his frustration after Liverpool's defeat at Aston Villa, calling for a return to the 'heavy-metal football' style employed under former manager Jurgen Klopp.
Slot Dismisses Impact of Salah's Comments
Speaking at his press conference on Friday morning, Slot downplayed the significance of Salah's outburst. He stated that he had not observed any negative effect on the team's training or morale throughout the week. 'I have not seen any impact on the squad,' Slot said. 'We have had a good week of preparation, and the focus remains on our crucial match against Brentford.'
Shared Goals and Mutual Disappointment
The Dutch manager emphasised that both he and Salah share the same ultimate objective: the success of Liverpool Football Club. 'We are both disappointed with how this season has gone compared to the last,' Slot admitted. 'But we are working together to finish strongly and secure Champions League football.'
Despite 12 squad members liking Salah's social media post, Slot insisted that internal harmony remains intact. 'Social media is not the place to judge team spirit,' he added. 'What matters is what happens on the pitch and in the dressing room.'
Team Fitness Update Ahead of Brentford Clash
Slot provided a positive update on the fitness front, confirming that goalkeeper Alisson will train with the team. Additionally, striker Alexander Isak is expected to participate in parts of training, raising hopes that both could feature in Sunday's decisive match. Liverpool need just one point from their final game against Brentford to secure a top-four finish and qualification for the Champions League.
The match at Anfield is set to be a tense affair, with Slot urging his players to channel any frustration into a positive performance. 'We have one game to achieve our goal, and that is where all our energy must go,' he concluded.
