A mother and son have been jailed for a car attack that left a man with serious injuries. The incident occurred in Southend, Essex, and involved a vehicle being used as a weapon.
The court heard that the attack was premeditated and carried out with the intent to cause harm. The victims suffered significant physical and psychological trauma.
Judge Mrs Justice Arbuthnot sentenced the pair, noting the severity of the crime and the impact on the victim. The mother received a prison term of several years, while her son was also handed a custodial sentence.
The case has drawn attention due to the family's previous involvement in a high-profile legal battle over life-support treatment for Archie Battersbee, a 12-year-old boy who was declared brain-stem dead. The mother had been a prominent figure in that case, advocating for continued treatment.
Police have welcomed the sentences, stating that violent attacks will not be tolerated. The victim has expressed relief at the outcome, hoping to move forward with his life.
