Former Loose Women star Andrea McLean has spoken about the support of her husband Nick Feeney after a serious health scare and financial difficulties. The 56-year-old was rushed to hospital over Christmas 2024 with pneumonia, kidney failure and sepsis, following multiple bouts of coronavirus.
McLean, who left Loose Women in 2020 after 13 years, said she struggled to focus on recovery because she was used to a hectic schedule. She described the forced bed rest as 'horrible' until she and her husband relabelled it as 'your job is to get well'. This reframing helped her prioritise sleep and eating well.
The couple also faced severe debt after McLean's business This Girl Is On Fire collapsed. She described a sense of 'powerlessness' and 'hopelessness', particularly at night. Each evening, she and Nick would identify three things they felt grateful for, a practice she found challenging but helpful.
McLean has detailed her experiences in her new book Shameless: Finding Freedom and Resilience Through Failure. She hopes the book will help others feel less isolated, saying 'shame is such an isolator'. The family has since moved to Spain, which McLean says has been a massive part of her healing.
