Four-time Formula One world champion Alain Prost reportedly sustained a head injury during an armed robbery at his home near Lake Geneva in Switzerland earlier this week, according to Swiss media reports.
The 71-year-old French racing legend, known as "the Professor," was attacked by intruders who forced his son to open a safe during the incident on Tuesday morning, Swiss tabloid Blick reported late on Friday.
Police Investigation Underway
Swiss police have confirmed they are investigating the robbery. "The perpetrators entered the residence while the occupants were present, threatened them, and forced one family member to open a safe before fleeing with the stolen goods," the public prosecutor's office said in a statement. "Despite the extensive search operation launched, the perpetrators have not yet been apprehended at this stage."
Police added that several balaclava-wearing intruders broke into the house. "Once inside, they threatened the occupants and inflicted minor head injuries upon one family member, under circumstances that remain to be established," the statement continued. "The perpetrators then forced another family member to open a safe before making their escape with stolen items, a precise inventory of which is currently being compiled."
Prost's Condition and Response
According to Blick, Prost was "visibly shaken by this brutal intrusion" and has since left his home in Nyon, a town on the shores of Lake Geneva.
Prost is one of the most iconic figures in Formula One history, winning four Drivers' World Championships between 1985 and 1993 while racing for Williams, McLaren, and Ferrari. He held records for most podiums (106), most wins (51), and fastest laps (41) at the time of his retirement, though those numbers have since been surpassed.
His fierce rivalry with the late Ayrton Senna remains legendary, culminating in title-deciding collisions at Suzuka in 1989 and 1990, even when the pair were teammates at McLaren.
