Adam Peaty Accused of 'Cashing In' on Ramsay Name After Marriage

Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty has been accused of 'cashing in' on his new name after marrying Holly Ramsay, the daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. The 31-year-old, who tied the knot in December, now competes under the name Adam Ramsay-Peaty and is said to refer to Gordon and his wife Tana as 'mum and dad'.

Insiders close to the Peaty family claim the name change 'opens doors' for the athlete. A source told the Daily Mail: 'As much as Adam wants to be a Ramsay, he is not. He is a Peaty. Adam has financial control and is cashing in on the Ramsay name because it opens doors. He is playing a role.'

The insider added that Adam, originally from Uttoxeter, is 'embarrassed of his roots and upbringing' and has left his parents Caroline and Mark 'devastated'. They said: 'Adam may be rich but we have something that he hasn't and that is brains, loyalty, integrity and family.'

Peaty is aiming to become the first British swimmer to win gold at four consecutive Commonwealth Games, having debuted 12 years ago. He said: 'Being selected to represent your country is always an honour... I'm particularly excited to compete in Scotland this summer.'

The family fallout intensified after Peaty uninvited his relatives from the wedding, except his sister Bethany. His aunt criticised him for calling Gordon Ramsay 'dad', calling it 'toadying behaviour' and disrespectful to his biological father, who 'worked his hands raw and bleeding' to support his swimming career.
