President Donald Trump's approval rating has fallen to its lowest level since taking office, according to a new Gallup poll. The survey, conducted among approximately 1,500 adults, found that only 37% of Americans approve of his performance, while 63% disapprove.
The gap between approval and disapproval has steadily widened over recent months, as the Trump administration has faced a series of controversies without securing major legislative achievements. The poll was taken before news emerged that a special counsel investigating possible links between Trump's campaign and Russian operatives had issued three indictments.
Gallup's tracking poll has not recorded a majority approval for Trump since the early days of his presidency, when he briefly held a one-point margin. Since June, approval has not exceeded 40%. The figures show a stark partisan divide: nearly three-quarters of Democrats oppose virtually everything Trump has done, while more than half of Republicans support him.
Trump's 37% approval rating is unusually low for a president this early in his term. Barack Obama never fell below 40%, and George W. Bush did not dip below that mark until his second term. The closest comparison is Bill Clinton, who dropped to 37% in his first summer before recovering.
