Wayne Rooney has weighed in on the Premier League title race, predicting that both Arsenal and Manchester City will win all their remaining fixtures. If his forecast holds true, Mikel Arteta's side would clinch the championship by just two points.
Title Race Intensifies
The Gunners must respond after City's emphatic 3-0 victory over Brentford on Saturday. Goals from Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland, and Omar Marmoush hauled Pep Guardiola's team to within two points of the north Londoners. Arsenal travel to West Ham at the London Stadium for their next match.
City still have nine points to play for, including a game in hand against Crystal Palace scheduled for Wednesday, May 13th. Arsenal also have nine points remaining, starting with the trip to the Hammers.
Remaining Fixtures
Following the West Ham clash, Arsenal face Burnley at the Emirates before concluding their league campaign at Crystal Palace's Selhurst Park. They then prepare for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30. City, meanwhile, must navigate the FA Cup final against Chelsea before their last two league outings: away at Bournemouth and home to Aston Villa at the Etihad.
Rooney's Verdict
Speaking on Match of the Day, Rooney analysed both teams' schedules. "I think City just have to try and win their games. I said last week that I felt City would drop points against Everton," he said. "I feel both teams will win every game from now, which makes Arsenal champions."
When asked about the emotions at Arsenal, Rooney explained: "Excitement, nervousness. You get every emotion. With City winning today, now it's on Arsenal to go out and win against West Ham. Every type of emotion you think you can have, you go through over the next couple of weeks. It's brilliant when you're in it and when you get out of it at the right time, it's a good feeling. But when you're on the wrong side, it's one of the worst feelings in the world."
Should both sides win all remaining matches, Arsenal would finish on 85 points, with City on 83.
