Prestwick Twinning Marks 50 Years with Germany and 30 with US

Ayrshire rolled out the red carpet for international guests as the Prestwick Town Twinning Association marked significant milestones with delegations from Germany and the United States.

Civic Reception and Performances

The association celebrated 50 years of close ties with Lichtenfels, Bavaria, and 30 years of friendship with Vandalia, Ohio. A programme of events took place over several days, including a Civic Reception featuring Musichoir, Scottish Dancing from the Sophie Oliver School of Dance, and the Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra.

Rhona Allanach, President of the Prestwick Town Twinning Association, said: “We had loads of activities from the 30th year of Twinning with Vandalia, Ohio and the 50th with Lichtenfels in Bavaria.”

Cultural Activities and Local Attractions

Guests learned to play bowls, visited castles and stately homes, and were taught how to “behave badly, in a good way, by wearing cones Boston-style.” They also visited Alloway for a performance of Tam O’Shanter by Ken O’Hara and sang songs with Scott Nicol and Debbie Campbell.

“We even fitted in a trip to Portpatrick and a tour of golf history in Prestwick,” Allanach added. “There was also the best kept secret that is Cumnock Heritage Museum which proved a big hit, not to mention the unveiling of our newly positioned plaque (in Boydfield Gardens), all in the name of promoting world peace.”
