Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? has crowned its seventh £1 million winner, ending a six-year drought for the iconic quiz show. Retired IT analyst Roman Dubowski answered all 15 questions correctly to claim the jackpot, becoming the second winner under host Jeremy Clarkson's tenure.
Dubowski's Journey to the Million
Dubowski, who had unsuccessfully applied twice before, faced a near miss at the £1,000 question about mayonnaise ingredients. He breezed through the rest, leaving two lifelines (50:50 and Ask Jeremy) unused for the final question. Clarkson dubbed him "an encyclopaedia in a shirt." After winning, Dubowski said: "I thought I was good enough to win a five-figure sum because I’ve seen the show so much."
Historical Context
The first winner under Clarkson was Donald Fear in 2020, who ended a 14-year gap. During Chris Tarrant's era, five winners emerged: Judith Keppel (2000), David Edwards (2001), Robert Brydges (2001), Pat Gibson (2004), and Ingram Wilcox (2006). ITV announced another contestant from the current series is set to win the full prize next month, bringing the total to eight. The infamous Charles Ingram scandal in 2001 saw his cheque rescinded after a coughing plot was uncovered.
