Organizers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics have announced that over four million tickets were sold in the initial release this month, signaling strong demand for the Summer Games more than two years ahead of the opening ceremony.
Second Ticket Draw Announced
Registration has now opened for the second ticket draw at Tickets.LA28.org, with sales scheduled to commence in August 2026. This subsequent phase promises new inventory across all Olympic sports and a diverse range of price points, according to the organizing committee.
Reynold Hoover, LA28 Chief Executive Officer, expressed enthusiasm, stating: "The response to our initial on-sale was nothing short of historic." The committee reported that 95 per cent of tickets priced under $100 were sold during a presale for residents of the Los Angeles and Oklahoma City areas, and about 500,000 tickets priced at $28 were purchased by local buyers.
Global Demand and Pricing Concerns
However, some residents have voiced complaints regarding high prices, additional fees, and limited availability during the presale period. The demand for tickets has proven to be global, with sales recorded in 85 countries and all 50 US states and territories. The United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, and Japan emerged as the leading international markets.
Intriguingly, women's Olympic sessions sold at a higher rate than men's sessions in the first drop, while artistic gymnastics proved to be the fastest-selling sport overall. Nearly all tickets released for soccer matches across seven venues nationwide were also sold. Furthermore, tickets for flag football, lacrosse, softball, and squash – sports newly added to the LA28 program – completely sold out in the initial release.
How to Register for the Next Draw
Fans interested in the next draw can register until 22 July. Those selected will receive email notification and will be eligible to purchase up to 12 tickets for Olympic events, alongside an additional 12 tickets for the soccer tournament, which do not count towards the general limit.
Los Angeles is set to make history as the third city to host the Summer Olympics three times, having previously staged the Games in 1932 and 1984. The city will also host the Paralympics for the very first time.
