Team GB Men's Curling Advances to Semi-Finals Amid Cheating Row at 2026 Winter Olympics

Team GB's men have scraped into the curling semi-finals at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, keeping their medal hopes alive, while the women agonisingly missed out after a tense round robin stage. The men's qualification came despite a recent cheating controversy involving Canada and Sweden that went viral, adding drama to the competition.

Men's Team Battles Through Adversity

Great Britain's men slumped to a 9-5 defeat by Canada on Tuesday evening, following the weekend's cheating accusations against the Canadian team. However, they hit back in style on Wednesday afternoon with a dominant 9-2 victory over the USA after just six ends, securing their place in the hunt for a medal and a play-off spot.

Bruce Mouat's rink required external help to seal a top-four position, needing either Norway or Italy to lose their final match on Thursday morning. Italy obliged by losing 9-5 to unbeaten Switzerland, while Norway beat already-qualified Canada to claim the final qualifying spot, just one place above GB.

Britain's uphill task continues as they face top qualifiers Switzerland in the semi-final from 6.35pm GMT on Thursday evening. A win would guarantee at least a silver medal, matching their achievement from Beijing four years ago.

Women's Team Narrowly Misses Out

Team GB's women were narrowly edged out of the top four, despite a strong performance in the round robin stage. They snatched a remarkable 8-7 victory against the USA on Wednesday morning, thrashed Japan 9-3 in the evening, and beat Italy 7-4 on Thursday. However, they needed Switzerland to beat the US to guarantee progression, but the Americans sealed a dramatic 7-6 victory in an extra end, condemning Britain to a group stage exit.
