Snoop Dogg Embraces Winter Olympics Curling Experience in Italy

Renowned for his laid-back demeanour and relaxed approach to life, US rapper Snoop Dogg certainly knows how to chill. However, he took that mantra quite literally during a recent visit to the Winter Olympics, where he watched two of Scotland's curling stars compete on the ice.

Honorary Role and Special Appearance at Cortina

The musician, who holds the position of honorary coach for Team USA and works as a special correspondent for broadcaster NBC, attended yesterday's curling mixed doubles match in Cortina, located in northern Italy. Snoop Dogg, who had previously carried the Olympic flame through the streets of Gallarate on Wednesday, made a memorable impression on British curler Bruce Mouat from Edinburgh by requesting to have his picture taken with him.

Later, the rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, ventured onto the ice himself to attempt sweeping a stone towards the house, showcasing his enthusiasm for the sport.

Starstruck Moment with Scottish Curlers

Mouat, who secured a silver medal in the 2022 Beijing Games with the men's team, was accompanied by his doubles partner Jennifer Dodds when Snoop Dogg approached them for a selfie. Discussing the encounter, Dodds shared: 'We walked past and we were just kind of like “there’s Snoop Dogg”, a bit starstruck, and then it was like “cool jacket” because it had the US team on it and then we continued walking past and we got ushered back.'

'They said “he wants a selfie with you” and we said “OK!”. So, if Snoop Dogg’s team is reading this, can we please get the photo? We don’t have it so we are on a mission to try to get it.'

Surprise Recognition and Sports Enthusiasm

Mouat and Dodds, who triumphed in their match against Sweden during the session, were taken aback to discover that the star was aware of them. Mouat added: 'He said “I’ve heard about you” which is crazy. We wish we had taken a photo on our phone but I think we were just kind of a bit starstruck.'

The rapper, famous for hits like Nuthin' but a G Thang and Drop It Like It's Hot, is a dedicated sports fan and co-owner of Championship football club Swansea City. He also previously served as a correspondent for NBC at the Paris Summer Olympics in 2024, highlighting his ongoing involvement in major sporting events.

During the curling session, Snoop Dogg was seen mingling with the crowd at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium and even swept the ice alongside Daniel Casper of the US team on Friday, further demonstrating his hands-on approach to the Winter Games.
