Sky Sports has announced a series of broadcast innovations for its Formula 1 coverage, set to roll out later this year at no extra cost to subscribers. The upgrades include an immersive sidebar featuring Race Control, in-race standings, and a Recap function, as well as dedicated driver and team pages with enhanced data and explainers.
Viewers will also be able to stream onboard cameras from every driver, complete with team radio messages, during each race weekend. The new features will be available on Sky Glass, Sky Stream, and Sky Q devices, with a launch date yet to be confirmed.
Sky Sports markets itself as the 'ultimate destination' for F1, with existing programming such as Pit Wall Live, The Grid Walk, The F1 Show, and The Notebook. The latter, hosted by Ted Kravitz, provides post-qualifying and post-race analysis from the paddock.
For new customers, Sky offers its top-tier Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle from £35 per month, which includes live coverage of every practice, qualifying session, and race, along with nine Sky Sports channels, 100 regular TV channels, and subscriptions to Netflix and Disney+. The Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle, priced at £42 per month, adds HBO Max, discovery+, and Hayu from March.
Virgin Media subscribers can access Sky Sports channels through the provider's £52.99 Sport package, which includes over 200 channels, 362Mbps fibre broadband, and Netflix. Both Sky and Virgin contracts may see price changes at least twice during the 24-month term, including the annual April increase.
