Renowned jockey Luke Nolen, best known for his historic partnership with the legendary Australian sprinter Black Caviar, has been banned from racing for 24 days following a controversial incident after a race at Pakenham. Race Day Drama and Stewards' Investigation
The incident occurred during a seven-furlong maiden race at Pakenham on Thursday, which was marred by multiple instances of interference between Irreverent and the narrow winner, The Benchmark, ridden by jockey Lachlan Neindorf. As the horses approached the finish line, they came into close proximity, prompting Nolen to lodge an official objection against The Benchmark on grounds of interference over the final furlong and a half.
Stewards reviewed footage showing that near the 300-meter mark, Irreverent shifted out and brushed against The Benchmark. Subsequently, The Benchmark, which was laying in, shifted inward toward Irreverent, causing Irreverent to move further away. Over the final 100 meters, Irreverent raced tightly to the inside of The Benchmark, which continued to lay in. However, the racing panel ultimately dismissed Nolen's objection, concluding that Irreverent would not have finished ahead of The Benchmark regardless of the interference.
